Harlem Renaissance Movement
The Harlem Renaissance movement, also known as the New Negro Movement, began in the 1920s. This movement was one movement that involved mostly Blacks only. It deeply influenced black artists, so much that it started in Harlem, but many French-speaking black writers from African and Caribbean colonies that lived in Paris were also influenced by the Harlem Renaissance. African Americans were encouraged to break stereotypes by proving their intellect and equality through music, art, and literature. This movement doesn’t have a particular style of poetry. Some major poets are Robert Hayden and Gwendolyn Brooks.
