Poem Analysis
The poem to me is saying-
Believe in yourself, your ability, and live freely. Believe in a new day. Believe in change. Don't conform to how others, the government, or anybody of higher rank than you, want you to live. Live, think, and act for yourself, because their ideas are corrupting societies to act how they believe people should act. I can tell the poet doesn't care for high class individuals because he refers to them as "blue-suited insects" saying that they're "infesting" society. In Kaufman's second stanza, by saying "Believe in the swinging sounds of jazz" he's saying believe in spontaneity. Jazz has no structure, it flows by emotion and is often improv. Spontaneity changes the mundane and makes life much more exciting. He suggests that you listen to past poets because they are sagacious. They have been through the struggle that you will encounter. Also he advises not letting the bias news alter your thoughts and actions, instead pay attention and learn from the past.

Literary Devices
Devices found- Kennings. Personification.Anthropomorphism
Surprisingly, this short poems has more than one literary device hidden in it. In the third line Kaufman utilizes kennings. When he says, "Not in blue-suited insects, infesting society's garments" he refers to the government as blue suited insects. I found personification and anthropomorphism in the second stanza. He gives the "swinging sounds of jazz" the ability to tear the night into shreds, and reassemble it into something new.
